| Customer Reviews: "Don't Be Afraid To Come Dancing...It's Only Natural...." March 5, 2010 Robert I. Hedges 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Come Dancing" is a catchy and kitschy late Kinks hit written by Ray Davies about the changing urban landscape in England, in which the singer recalls a happy childhood and contrasts that innocent time with the mundane rigors of adulthood. His sister used to go dancing at "the local palais...where the big bands used to come and play" and laments that "part of my childhood died" when they tore down the palais and replaced it with a parking garage.
The song works on two levels: it was certainly a successful pop tune, but I single it out for recognition more as a piece of wry social commentary. Rarely can a pop song be both, and I recommend it to lovers of classic pop music or cultural commentators with equal enthusiasm.

Another great Kinks story-song.
As they used to say on the old American Bandstand, "it's a good song to dance to."
